Judith Anis translates reality into a painterly language, using a process of abstraction and refinement of form to expand meaning. She regards the act of drawing as one in which the hand strives to translate an inner impression rather than imitate reality. Each body of work requires a multifaceted study of dozens of drawings and paintings, which sometimes spawn painterly environments, giving rise to a painting installation. Her primary concern is the human condition: the body as matter, the political "other," man as animal, and the affinities between man and nature. Her work combines artistic influences and art historical allusions with the qualities of Chinese ink blots and different types of abstract, with emphasis on Matisse's abstract tradition.
Studied art at Beaux-Arts of Cannes (1991–97) and Emuna Ephrata Academic College of Education and the Arts, Jerusalem (B.Ed) (1997–2000). Also studied oil painting and etching at Ateliers de Paris (2007); etching at the Jerusalem Print Workshop (2008); and painting with artist Sasha Okun (2008–18). Her work has been featured in numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Israel and around the world, including a solo exhibition at the Museum of Natural History, Jerusalem (2015) and group exhibitions at Artspace Tel Aviv (2016), Carrousel du Louvre, Paris (2016), and the Red House Gallery, Tel Aviv (2018). Her works are found in private collections in Israel and overseas.
